January 2025 - Lualemba Bungalow Resort - Monthly Newsletter
Hi Guys and Gals.
Well the wet season has been a ripper this year with a heap of rain and pretty much a low forming just off Rote island once a week getting more intense as the goes further west into the Indian ocean off Western Australia. Luckerly Australia hasn’t been too effected by them. Amidst the rain at Lualemba Bungalow Resort has been full progress replacing bungalow roofs with the new system we have been using having a cleaner interior to the rooms by not having the leaf exposed but from the outside keeping the traditional Rotenese look. From the lows forming off Rote a lot more erosion along the Nemberala beach from the spring tides and large swells affecting more the areas clearing the natural buffer zones where the sand meets the edge of the mainland. Definitely needs better management from authorities and beachfront owners/lease holders. Enjoy January 2025 newsletter and hope to see you all again sometime during surf season 2025.

We are always trying to improve the comforts of guests but keeping the Rotenese traditions alive.
Guests often ask what do we do during the wet season, do we ever get bored. Well this is when we are usually at our busiest renovating the bungalows and improving the resort so guests are more comfortable and relaxed during their stay.

Make it stand out
Development should not be prioritised over the balance of natural beauty and the delicate effects it has over permanent destruction.
It is always beyond me that clearing beachfront plants and trees for the guests of beachfront owners / leaseholders. It isn’t rocket science that there’s going to make there beachfront property worse and less attractive in the short run permanently making the damage caused non reversible. The building of rock structures and the blocking of public land access in front of beachfront owners / leaseholders does serious damage to the beaches. This should be managed by authorities that development should stop at landowner / leaseholder boundaries and not onto public land. Rote island has green zones to prevent development in delicate areas around Rote island even though this can be paid off to government officials in Jakarta to allow development doesn’t make sense. Is this corruption or a source of revenue but either way the sole purpose of creating a green zone is to protect delicate areas of the environment on Rote island. Beachfront protection isn’t expensive it just takes a little time to put palm foliage and driftwood on the beach in front of the foliage naturally growing between the beach sand and the mainland to dampen the severity of swells during the high tides. In some cases it does get washed away but it definitely protects the beachfront and in most cases it is known to build up sand to the beach. There is an abundance of foliage easily accessible on the mainland areas unless it has already been cleared.

Lualemba Bungalow Resort is an alternative style accommodation to the norm to stay.
Jenet and I have put our heart and sole into making Lualemba Bungalow Resort a second home to a lot of our guests as they return year after year. We have tried to create a beauty within the grounds of our traditional Roteneese bungalows. A true eco system has taken place attracting an abundance of birds, reptiles and other species that make the world go round. All this just a short walk to the Nemberala beach harbor where guests can jump on one of Lualemba boats to surf their favorite break or adventure out to one of many outer islands or catch a hell of a fish. In our accommodation deals we offer boat trips out to Tland and nearby surf breaks. A breakfast menu with a delicious fruit salad and tea or coffee. Lunch is available at menu prices and dinner is a banquet meal enough to feed a king or queen. We have a refreshing natural style swimming pool that is chemical free that makes it unique to most others. It is hard to spot the nine bungalows in these drone photoswhich proofs what a cool atmosphere and the privacy we have developed for our guests.
